For over 65 years, Coloured Gemstones Australia has been a family-owned studio rooter in the tradition of fine jewellery making. What began with one master jeweller’s commitment to prevision and craft has carried through two generations and thousands of pieces, each on made to be worn, remembered, and passed own.

Founded by Swiss master jeweller Bruno Moser and now led by his son Richard, our Burnside studio has never been driven by volume. It has always been driven by the belief that jewellery made well enough becomes something more than an object. It becomes part of life. A proposal remembered. A milestone marked. A silversmith in Switzerland
Richard's grandfather worked as a silversmith in Switzerland — the beginning of a family trade built on exacting standards and a deep respect for materials.

Bruno Moser comes to Australia
Richard's father trained as a goldsmith in Switzerland before moving to Australia, where he continued his work as both jeweller and gemstone cutter — cutting stones supplied to houses including Tiffany & Co., Cartier and Mikimoto.

DDS Diamond Design Studios
Following Bruno's passing, Richard continued the family tradition through Moser Jewellery and established DDS Diamond Design Studios in Burnside, Adelaide — specialising in diamonds, bespoke jewellery and manufacturing.

When you visit our Burnside showroom, you can view our coloured gemstone collection in person, handle individual stones, and speak directly with our jewellers. There is no substitute for seeing a stone in natural light, and we encourage you to come in before you decide.
The need we address
Coloured gemstones are different
The jewellery industry has traditionally concentrated on diamonds and standardised designs. Someone looking for a significant sapphire, ruby, emerald, spinel or tourmaline is usually after something individual — and colour, origin, treatment, clarity, cut, rarity and character all influence a gemstone’s beauty and its value.
That needs a different approach to picking a piece out of a display case.
We maintain access to an extensive range of gemstones, designs and precious materials, and through our relationships in the international gemstone and cutting community we can source individual stones to meet a particular requirement.
Where appropriate, significant gemstones are accompanied by recognised independent laboratory certification, giving greater confidence in the identity and characteristics of the stone.

Quality without compromise
Quality begins with the gemstone and extends through every component. From the gold or platinum to the diamonds, setting and finishing, each material is selected for the requirements of the individual design — and the jewellery is designed to complement and protect that particular stone.
Genuine value
Value comes from the best combination of gemstone, materials, design and craftsmanship for your budget. By sourcing as directly as practical and manufacturing through our own operations, we cut layers out of the traditional supply chain and put as much value as possible into the piece itself.
Confidence in our craftsmanship
Our manufactured jewellery carries a five-year warranty covering manufacturing faults, subject to normal conditions and excluding general wear and tear, accidental damage and inappropriate use. We want you confident not only when you buy, but through all the years you wear it.
Personal service
Fine jewellery is personal, and making it should be too. Our team works with you directly through gemstone selection, design and manufacture. Communication is clear and responsive, and questions are encouraged.
Knowledge and integrity
Coloured gemstones are complex — treatment, origin, rarity, colour, clarity and certification all affect desirability and value. We believe those factors should be explained clearly and honestly, and the stones we sell represented accurately.
Backed for five years
Manufacturing faults covered for five years, with professional cleaning, safety inspections and resizing available long after that — on pieces from our studio and beyond.

See every stone in person with colour, clarity, cut, and carat explained plainly, ensuring you handle each one in natural light and make the decision with complete clarity.
3. Design and Craft
Have your piece designed and crafted at our Burnside studio, working directly with Richard and our team, ensuring every decision along the way is yours to make.
4. Yours for Life
Take home a piece with full certification, backed by professional cleaning, inspections, and resizing whenever you need them, ensuring your jewellery is cared for long after you leave.

The people who make it
Richard Moser
Founder & Head Designer
Richard founded Coloured Gemstones Australia in 2015, continuing a family jewellery tradition extending through three generations. His education began on the workshop floor under his father Bruno Moser, an internationally recognised gemstone cutter whose work was supplied to houses including Tiffany & Co., Cartier and Mikimoto.
In 2005 he established DDS Diamond Design Studios, specialising in diamonds, bespoke jewellery and manufacturing. Coloured Gemstones Australia followed, to give the very different world of coloured gemstones a dedicated focus. Today Richard brings decades of experience to the sourcing and creation of each significant piece.
Peggy Wajer
Designer & Head Jeweller
Peggy's association with the Moser family began in 1985. After formal jewellery design training she joined Bruno Moser, designing and manufacturing jewellery around the individually cut gemstones he created.
Her work has been exhibited and sold internationally over several decades, giving her an exceptional understanding of the relationship between gemstone, proportion, setting and design. Today she concentrates on the design and manufacture of distinctive coloured gemstone jewellery for the Australian market.

Awards are not the measure
The Moser jewellery team has received numerous awards and industry recognition over the years for jewellery design, manufacturing and business excellence, including South Australian and national jewellery awards.
We’re proud of that recognition. But awards are not the ultimate measure of our work.
The most important result is the individual piece created for an individual client.
Every gemstone presents different possibilities. Every client has different tastes, priorities and reasons for commissioning jewellery. Our responsibility is to bring those elements together successfully — creating jewellery of integrity, beauty and lasting quality, one piece at a time.
