Find the Aquamarine Piece That Fits Your Style

Aquamarine is a member of the beryl group, just like emerald. However, unlike its fellow gemstone, it has greater transparency and clarity, with high-quality stones being completely see-through with no cloudiness. There are some specimens with a slight icy blue hue, while others tend to have a bluish green color.

Aquamarine Stones

Loose stones, selected individually and ready to be set.

Rings

Solitaires, trilogies and cocktail settings in 9ct and 18ct gold.

Necklaces

Pendants and chains in lengths that layer without tangling.

Earrings

Studs and drops that brighten without weighing the lobe.

Aquamarine has a distinct appearance compared to other blue gemstones.

Aquamarine is used extensively in jewellery as it is quite durable for regular wear. This gemstone’s hardness rate falls between 7.5 and 8 on the Mohs scale, which means it can be used for rings, earrings, necklaces, pendants, and bracelets.

Today, most aquamarine gems in jewellery are mined in Brazil, Madagascar, and Nigeria. The higher the clarity of an aquamarine stone and the stronger its color, the higher its value.

Find the Pink Tourmaline Piece That Suits You

Pink tourmaline covers everything from a pale blush to the deep raspberry sold as rubellite, and it is hard enough that none of those need a protective setting. The choice is about colour, not durability.

Every piece is made in our Burnside workshop around a stone you have seen. If you want a specific depth of pink, tell us before we start — it is the one thing that cannot be adjusted later.

Our Ring Collection

Aquamarine Rings

Aquamarine rings have a fresh and light appearance and do not carry the weight that some other dark stones have.
While some customers choose a vintage style featuring engraving, a milgrain edge or even filigree, others opt for a simple, elegant design, one which puts the emphasis on the stone. Both designs will work well depending on the type of aquamarine used and its color.

Our Rings Collection

Pink Tourmaline Rings

Pink tourmaline is the practical pink: hard enough to wear daily, strong enough in colour to read from a distance, and considerably less expensive than pink sapphire at the same size. It is the stone we most often suggest when someone wants a pink engagement ring and a realistic budget.

Rose gold deepens it, white metal sharpens it. For rubellite, which is darker, we usually recommend white metal and diamonds either side to keep light moving through the stone.

Our Pendants Collection

Pink Tourmaline Pendants

A pendant takes a larger pink tourmaline than a ring comfortably will, and the deeper rubellite colours are at their best hung against skin where light can reach them from the front.

The Facts Behind Aquamarine's Timeless Beauty

What every property actually means for the jewellery you wear every day

Property Value What It Means for You

Hardness (Mohs)

7.5–8
Very durable and suitable for everyday wear in rings, bracelets, and pendants

Transparency

Transparent
Light passes through the stone completely from one side to the other, which is what creates that luminous, glowing quality aquamarine is known for. The cleaner and more transparent the stone, the more light it holds and the more alive it looks when worn

Luster

Vitreous
The surface reflects light the way polished glass does, bright, clear, and sharp. This is what gives aquamarine that clean, refreshing appearance that catches the eye even in low light

The Facts Behind Pink Tourmaline

What each property actually means for a piece you intend to wear

Property Value What it means for you
Hardness (Mohs) 7 – 7.5 Suitable for a ring worn every day, with no cleavage plane to split along. The practical pink, where morganite and pink amethyst are softer.
Transparency Transparent to translucent Strongly coloured pink tourmaline is frequently included — it comes with the colour. Clean stones in a deep pink are the ones that command a premium.
Pleochroism Noticeable Colour varies with viewing direction, so orientation at the cutting stage decides how pink the finished stone looks face-up.
Typical treatment Often heated or irradiated Both are used to improve pink colour and both are permanent and stable. We tell you what a stone has had done to it.
Rubellite The deepest pinks and reds A trade name, not a separate species: rubellite is pink tourmaline strongly enough coloured to hold its red under electric light. It costs more for that reason.

Colour

Colour of Aquamarine Stones

There are various shades of blue for aquamarines. The colour ranges from light icy blue through to deep blue-green. We can show you the range in colour and assist you in selecting the right stone for your design.

Light Aquamarine Stone

Lighter aquamarine stones have a subtle icy hue and will suit everyday jewellery designs.

Medium Aquamarine Stone

This colour is a popular choice for aquamarines. Gemstones in this category will give off a bright, vivid, and bold blue colour.

Dark Aquamarine Stone

The darker aquamarine stones offer a rich blue-green hue with high visibility and are often used in statement pieces.

Colour

The Colour Range of Pink Tourmaline

Pink tourmaline covers more ground than most stones in this colour: pale blush, clear rose, and the deep raspberry sold as rubellite. Depth of colour drives the price, and the deepest material is often the most included — a trade-off worth seeing in person.

Pale Blush

Light and clean, the easiest pink to wear daily and the most affordable in larger sizes.

Rose Pink

The commercial centre: a clear, true pink with good brightness and generally fewer inclusions than the deeper material.

Rubellite

The deep raspberry to red end of the range, and the only pink tourmaline that keeps its colour under electric light. Usually more included, and priced well above the lighter stones.

October Birthstone

Pink Tourmaline, an October Birthstone

October has two birthstones, opal and tourmaline, and they could hardly be less alike. Opal is soft, holds water in its structure and dislikes temperature change. Tourmaline is hard, stable and perfectly comfortable in a ring worn every day.

Pink tourmaline is the colour most October buyers settle on. It runs from a pale blush through to a strong raspberry — the deepest, most saturated material is sold as rubellite — and it stays affordable at sizes where pink sapphire would not.

Questions We Are Asked Most Often

What is the difference between pink tourmaline and rubellite?

They are the same species. Rubellite is the trade name for pink tourmaline saturated enough to hold a red or deep raspberry colour under artificial as well as natural light. It is scarcer and costs more.

Is pink tourmaline good for an engagement ring?

Yes. At Mohs 7 to 7.5 with no cleavage, it is the most practical pink stone short of pink sapphire, and considerably less expensive at the same size.

How does it compare with morganite?

Pink tourmaline is harder and its colour is stronger; morganite is softer, paler and usually cheaper. If you want a pink that still reads pink from a distance, tourmaline is the better choice.

Is pink tourmaline treated?

Often. Heating and irradiation are both used to improve pink colour, and both are permanent and stable. We will tell you what a particular stone has had done to it before you buy.

Why do deeper pink stones have more inclusions?

In tourmaline, strong colour and inclusions tend to arrive together — it is a characteristic of how the material forms. A clean stone in a deep pink is genuinely uncommon, which is reflected in the price.

Questions We Are Asked Most Often

What is Aquamarine?

Aquamarine is actually a member of the beryl family which includes emerald and morganite. The blue-green color of aquamarine is due to small amounts of iron within its molecular structure, while the natural transparency of the stone creates exceptional sparkle and shine in the finished piece of jewelry. It’s a reliable gemstone that retains its beauty in every light.

Bezel setting will protect your aquamarine by encircling the edges of the stone from potential damage due to daily usage. A halo setting surrounds the center stone with additional diamonds or gemstones and provides added protection to the edges of the stone. Claw setting exposes more of the edges of the stone, however also provides the best visibility of its color.
Send us an enquiry with what you have in mind: the piece type, the occasion, any images or references, and a rough budget. We will arrange a consultation in our Burnside studio or work through the details with you remotely. Stone selection, setting design, and metal choice are all decisions we make together, from the first conversation to the finished piece.
